How to Make a Holographic Orange Butterfly.

This is how you can make a hologram at home. This can be made as a decoration, which is why I made it, or can be a fun project for children.

You will need:

• A CD case
• A mobile phone

Tools that you will need are:

• Hot glue gun / tape
• Craft knife
• pliers (optional)

If you want to skip a few steps you can use a laser cutter.

You can laser cut the peices of plastic if you want to. If a laser cutter is not available, skip to step 2. If you do have one, use it, then skip to step 7.

In order to do this use the link below which was made in TinkerCAD and export it. Select the ".svg" and laser cut it.

You should be able to just pop off the case from the front. This is in order to aquire the transparent plastic front.

Use some pliers to clip off the sides (sometimes you can just use your hands, but remember to wear gloves) so you have a flat peice of plastic. Of course you can just start off with a piece of plastic but this is incase you don't have that available.

Cut the plastic horizontally using your craft knife to make two triangles, then on each of the others - cut them in half to make it look like the above.

Inorder to make it flat to go on you mobile phone, you need to cut off the top. Cut a small portion, about half a centimetre to a centimetre off the bottom. If this is too large, just cut a smaller part off.

A good way to do this is by marking it out first.

You should end up with a trapezium.

Find the worst triangle and dispose of it. This is because you only need three trapeziums as with four, it is difficult to put together.

This could be one that you have accidentally cracked.

Using a hot glue gun or some tape, stick the pieces together. A helping-hand would be useful for the hot glue. It should look like a prism.

Just be cautious as the glue gun can get very hot.

Align a corner of the triangle with a butterfly to make it apper in the centre. You can then adjust it to make it appear higher, lower, or even twice.

It is best seen in the dark as the colors will come out better.

You can display any video you want as well.
