How to Make a High Voltage Generator Using USSR CRT Televison Parts

This is a high voltage multiplier made from a USSR TV. I made it cause i was bored.

CAUTION: This circuit is very powerful, it can make over 2kV and even if its a few microamperes the shock from it hurts a lot (trust me i tried) so DO NOT repeat it unless you know what your doing!

Now most of the parts for this project are oddly specific and if you can't find them its quite easy to make them yourself.

Also you can rip most of these parts from any soviet tv cause they can usually be found there.

1x УН9/27 cascade voltage multiplier

This part is the voltage multiplier that is on the output, its a Cockroft Walton HV multiplier.

1x ТВС USSR TV flyback transformer.

It doesn't really matter what model flyback you use, just find one which doesnt have the 2 knobs for the kinoscope flyback adjustment. If you have such a flyback it is not going to work since the voltage is already rectified at the output.

1x КТ829 transistor

1x КД226 diode.

1x 3kOhm resistor

2 18650 batteries

Most Soviet tv's if not all pre 89 have non adjustable flyback controls and have a separate multiplier which is great for our case. You need a flyback that looks similar to the reference image shown. If your flyback has a wound primary winding you can saw it off since we will need to make our own. To wind it first wind 15 turns of insulated wire for example from the computers power supply, after that wind 10 turns of again insulated wire and connect the end of the first winding you wound to the start of the second winding, and remember it since that's where we will supply the positive voltage from.

Soldering the Rest of the Circuit

Thanks to AKA Kasyan for the schematic! Solder accordingly to the scheme and be careful! It is recommended you dont add the voltage multiplier after winding the flyback and to first start with 1x 18650 battery thats 3.7V and then only after testing the working conditions you add another one to the scheme.

After doing all the steps you can test the circuit! You may put it in whatever case you see fit however be careful! You may add some resistors on the output so that it discharges the capacitors so you dont shock yourself! Good luck with everything and happy soldering!!
