How to Make a Halloween Dummy
Here's how to make a custom Halloween dummy, of which you can add bandanas, scarves, or even dress it up in a Halloween costume! This Instructable can be no-sew, or sew, so it's easy to make!
Supplies
Supplies needed:
Scissors
Some type of stuffing, example shown in picture (I ended up using old newspapers)
Fabric markers or some other type of coloring that works on fabric
Cardboard or straw hay
Old clothes, and some sort of thing for the head, such as a burlap bag, T-shirt, or other
Needle and thread (Optional, if you want to sew)
String
Note: for the shirt, I would recommend a long sleeve shirt, as it's much simpler.
Making the Legs, Part 1
First, start by cutting some strips of cardboard for the fake hay (If you have straw hay, skip the previous step). Next, bundle the cardboard/hay and tie with string, look at pictures for reference. Then, insert the hay/cardboard into the bottom of the pant leg. Then, sew/tie the end of the leg, as shown. Repeat for the other leg.
Making the Legs, Part 2
After the bottom of the legs are done, then start stuffing the legs. Once it's at the desired stuffing point (That sounds a bit odd), then tie or sew the top closed (I had drawstring pants, so I just pulled the strings tight).
Making the Shirt
For the shirt, basically just repeat steps 1 and 2. Make a bundle of hay/cardboard, tie the bundle with string, put it into the bottom of the arm, tie/sew the arm, but don't stuff the shirt yet.
Attaching the Bottom to the Top
This is fairly easy. Start by putting the top of the shirt on the pants, making sure part of the pants are in the shirt. Then tie or sew the shirt to the pants, and stuff the shirt.
Making the Head
Now, it's time for the head. Start by closing one end, by sewing or tying. Then stuff the shirt (In this case, it's a shirt, not a bag/???). Next, tie/sew the other end of the shirt shut. Then decide what side is up, then draw a face on the shirt.
You can try to draw the face on first, which might be easier, then stuff and tie, but it might not work very well.
Attaching the Head to the Shirt
To attach the head to the shirt, it should be quite simple. Pull up the collar/neck of the long sleeve shirt, and stuff the bottom part of the other shirt into the collar of the long sleeve shirt. Then tie/sew the shirts together.
All Done!
Now, you can customize it any way you want! You could leave it as it is, or put a hat on it, or a bandana, or dress it up in a costume!
