How to Make a Clay Golden Snitch!
The Golden Snitch is a small flying ball used in the Wizarding game Quidditch. The Snitch is an important part of the Harry Potter series, so In this Instructable I'm going to show you how to make one out of plastic and clay. I hope you enjoy!
Your Materials
These are the materials you will need for this project:
• clay
• silver and gold metallic paint
• a piece of plastic (from the recycling bin or something)
• scissors
• paper or foam plates (to work on and to use as pallets)
• paintbrushes
• water
• toothpicks

The Wings
We will be making the wings out of plastic, then painting them silver. To start, cut out the rough shape.
Add the Feathers
Define the shape a little more, then start making the fringes (feathers). Cut on the edge of the wing, leaving an area to be the vein. Continue until you've done the whole wing.
Paint the Wing
In the Harry Potter books, the Snitch has silver wings. So our Snitch should too. Grab your metallic silver paint and paint it! Once that dries, you may need to do a second coat. Move the wing away from the wet area to dry.
The Second Wing
Repeat steps 2- 4 to make a second wing
The Main Part of the Snitch
To make the actual sphere, roll a piece of clay into a ball. This will be the main part of the Snitch, so make sure it's as round as you can get it. The clay should be about the size of a golf ball.
The Designs (Pt. 1)
Making the design on the Snitch is a little complicated, so I'll split it up into 3 parts. The first step is to simply take a toothpick and draw the designs on. Then, make a second line next to them, as if you were making bubble letters.
The Designs (Pt. 2)
Here's the harder part (don't worry, after this it's mostly easy). You need to take your toothpick, and smooth out the area right next to the outside line. Use your a tiny bit of water on your fingertip to make the clay smooth. Doing this will make the designs 3D. Do this with all your lines.
The Designs (Pt. 3)
For the final part of the designing, take a little water and make everything a smooth as possible. Basically make it look neater and add any finishing touches you need to.
Stick on the Wings
While the clay is still wet, push the wings into the clay near the top.
Let It Dry
The clay should sit overnight, or until it's relatively hard.
Paint It
Grab your gold paint and paint the entire ball. Try to avoid the wings, but you can touch up with silver if you need to. Do 2-3 coats, letting it dry to the touch between each coat.
Touch Up
Touch up any places you missed, or if you got any gold paint on the wings fix it with silver paint. Let it dry.
Done!
You did it! You've completed your Golden Snitch!
