Hi, again! Christmas is approaching and people all over the world are looking forward to this fairy winter holiday. I’m not an exception. The feeling of Christmas inspires me to create new decorations that can feel your home with warmth, comfort and coziness. Today, I’m going to share the Instructable that will help you find out how to make fluffy quilled snowflakes. The project is quite easy and it won’t take you longer than 1-1.5 hours, even if you have never done things like that before. Are you fond of quilling? If so, then this Instructable will certainly appeal to you! The diameter of this snowflake is around 9 cm and you can make any number of them depending upon your needs, time and preferences!

Supplies

To make a fluffy quilled snowflake, you will need the following supplies:

  • paper for quilling (12 white and 4 purple 3 mm-strips and 1-2 violet 5 mm-strips)
  • PVA glue
  • quilling tool, a toothpick or an awl
  • knitting needles ( 2 and 4 mm in diameter)
  • carton (optional)
  • scissors
  • snowflake template

The template should feature the snowflake shape, consisting of circles and 6 “beams”. It will help make symmetrical snowflakes that will look great in your home!

Prepare the Elements

All in all, you will need 7 groups of elements for your snowflake. Each group should contain 6 elements, namely 6 diamond-shaped pieces, 6 fringed petals, 6 large purple rolls, 6 large white rolls, 6 purple small rolls, 6 arrows and 6 “beams” that will join other pieces. For each diamond-shaped element, you will need 0.5 standard strip of paper for quilling.

Make Diamond-Shaped Elements

Make a roll and glue the tail. Press the roll from both sides, pinching to the left and right edges. You should eventually get a diamond-shaped element. To make fringed petals, you will need 1 white strip (27 cm long), a piece of violet strip and a piece of purple strip (5 mm).

Make the Petals

Make another roll and glue the tail of it. If you wish to get a snowflake consisting of several colors, you should attach a strip of another color in the end. Glue it as well.

Make Arrows and Other Rolls

Now, take a knitting needle, press the roll to it and wrap the edge a bit as it is shown on the photo. Make sure the center of the roll remains fixed. Try to attach both ends of the petal, remove the knitting needle and press well. Glue the ends of the element, press gently and leave it to dry.

Cut the Fringe

Do you want your snowflake to be fluffy? If so, then it is high time to cut the fridge! Take a strip of quilling paper (5 mm), measure the element you need, take sharp scissors and carefully cut the fringe. It is better to cut it under the angle – from the edges and up to the center. You can use a piece of carton to make sure your fringe will be equally fluffy.

Wrap the Petals Into Fringed Elements

Wrap the petals into fringed elements and glue them carefully. To make the “beams”, you will need one large purple roll, one large white roll, one small violet roll and a separate strip of quilling paper. Use knitting needles of different diameters (4 mm and 2 mm). Having made the rolls, don’t forget to glue them. To make the arrows, you will also need to make rolls first. Press the roll on one side to give it an arrow shape. Then make the beams as it is shown on the photo.

Make the Adjoining Elements

To make the final elements, which will join other pieces, you will need a quarter of a standard strip. Fold it into 2 parts, wrap the ends, leaving 1.5 cm till the middle part of it. Glue the edges in one point, wrap the top to 4 mm, then unfold it and form the elements you need.

Assemble a Snowflake

Use a snowflake template to assemble a snowflake. To start with, attach 6 diamond-shaped elements together and glue them in the center. Attach the joining elements to the tops of these pieces. Insert the arrows between them. Finally, attach the fringed elements. Use the photos to assemble a snowflake.

That’s it! Your fluffy quilled snowflake is now ready! Make as many of them as you need to decorate your home! Merry Christmas!
