How to Make a Fashion Figure
.png)

Learn how to create a fashion figure from start to finish. Together we will create a look for the artist Doechii, but feel free to take creative liberty and apply the same techniques to any of your fashion creations.
Supplies
First, let's gather our supplies we will need to create our drawing. You will need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Colored pencils
- Image References (optional)
The Design Process

To start out, I put together a couple of mood boards on Pinterest of fashion inspiration and my ideal model (Doechii) to get an idea of where I wanted to guide my creativity. This may help later on when creating the fashion pieces when thinking of your models typical style, material, and brands they may wear.
*If you are doing this with just an imagination of the pieces itself and not assigning a specific model, adjust your mood board to play around with colors, textures, and silhouettes.
Begin Drawing the Figure
 (1).png)
With your pencil begin drawing the figure start with making a small oval and line through the center.
This will be the head and the height of your figure.
Sketching the Shoulders and Waist

To create the shoulders and waist you will create two diagonal lines.
The first will be at the top a little bit away from the head, drawn diagonally down from left to right.
The second will be below the shoulder line, drawn diagonally down from right to left.
Add Onto the Chest and Hips

For this step, you will connect the two diagonal lines with another line to be your starting point for the hips and the chest. Think of an obtuse or wide check mark.
Adding onto our "check mark" drag another line moving towards our centerline.
Lastly, draw a circle at the intersection between the shoulder lines and the chest lines.
Repeat and Add the Shoulder 'bones'

In this step, repeat the first part of step 4, but now on the left side of your figure. *HOWEVER* Instead of of making your outer leg line towards your centerline, draw the line away from the centerline.
Next, add two soft curved lines from the head to the shoulder line. (This will be your neck).
Add the Knees and Finish the Legs

To finish drawing the leg, draw a diagonal line from the centerline leaving a narrow space (this will be the knee caps) between the wide check mark we previously made. In the narrow spaces make a small oval.
Do the same to the other side.
Now make another wide check mark below the small oval that was created. (This will be the calves)
On the leg's side closest to the centerline you can make it more flat or straight. However it should create another narrow space which will act as an ankle.
Sketch the Feet

For the feet make almost a triangle or diamond.
Now Add the Arms

For the first arm, draw a soft line from the middle of the circle shoulder to the hip.
Next, add a big arc or smiley face as I like to call it, through the waist.
Lastly, draw a diagonal line starting from the center of the other shoulder circle to the arc.
Connect the Arms

Start by drawing two lines on the outer part of each circle. For the right sided you can pretty much just draw two lines straight down or add a slight curve.
For the left side mimic the diagonal line but make it shorter. Than on the long diagonal line, mimic a soft arch that connects to the waist.
Lastly, draw another curved line above this.
Adding to the Face and Body

For this part, I just added some ears, but you are welcome to draw the nose, eyes, and mouth.
Then, to better understand the proportions, I drew lines from the inner leg to the hip and added half circles to the chest, but this step may be unnecessary.
Playing With Silhouettes

At this point, I knew I wanted a skirt and a top and a hat, similar to what Doechii has worn in the past (this is wear the mood board comes in).
I drew a skirt with a high slit and a button up top with puffy sleeves.
Draw in Some Model Detail

After drawing the base of my outfit, I added some hair and defined the type of shoes.
Optional: Add Color

Coloring the outfit sometimes elevates your vision. If not, focus on out lining your details with pen to make it more bold!!
