How to Make a Drawing Station for One Hand

This is a drawing stations allowis users with only one active hand to draw.

Enabling them to uncap and grip markers easily, as well as holding down the paper to the table while they draw.

Materials:

150x150 centimeter Vinyl Fabric (Faux Leather)

300 centimeter long Elastic Straps (2 centimeters wide)

50X3X3 centimeter EVA Foam

Contact Adhesives Glue

Black Sewing Thread

5 Polypropylene Strips (0.1 centimeter thick) - each 20x4.4 centimeter

Tools:

Sewing Machine

Ruler Marking Tool / sewing chalk

Fabric Scissors Sewing Pins

Fabric Hole Cutter (1.2cm diameter)

• Start by marking on the 150x150 centimeter Vinyl Fabric the measurements of the table you are designing for. In our case the measurements were 61x72 centimeter.
• Then follow the pattern below (Image A) marking 3 edges of the table with two 3 centimeter marks (this will be for the marker guides.
• Then, on all four sides mark 4 centimeter (for the table wrapping), and then 2 centimeter (for the seam line).
• For the marker stand, mark out a pocket 3x50 centimeter on the edge of the marked table area. Depending if this is for a righty or a lefty. We placed the marker holder on the left side of the table in the center, were it was most convenient for our user.
• Cut in the center of marked marker stand pocket. This will be the seam allowance to help you attach the stand later.
• Cut the pattern on the black lines. (black lines are cutting, dashed lines are for folding)

• Cut 3 elastic strips each 46 centimeter long. (Image B)
• Place down with sewing pins, the first strip in the center of the table 10 centimeter from the users side, second strip sew 22 centimeter and third one 6.5 centimeter. Make sure they are all aligned.
• Sew precisely as seen in image C, so that an A4 and and A4 paper can be placed in the between elastic strips. stitches marked in red.

• Take the 50X3X3 centimeter EVA foam and drill 9 holes, each 5 cm apart. The holes should have a diameter of 1.2 centimeter and 2.6 centimeter deep. (This diameter and depth match the markers our user uses, make sure your holes should grip the markers tightly) (Image D)
• For the covering mark the pattern as seen on Image E
• Use a hole material cutter to create holes in the fabric to match holes in the sponge piece.
• Attach every two edges marked in yellow to one another with sewing pins, then sew together. Image E

• Start with pinning together the marker guides:
• Attach the two 3 centimeter strips (marked in blue) to one another, pinching them together. (Image F). Do this on all three sides.
• Cut out Polypropylene strips 20x4.4 centimeters
• Attach Polypropylene strips for structure alongside the edges as needed. Attach and stabilize with sewing pins or Contact Adhesives Glue.
• Attach all corners together Then sew 1 cm from the top of the guide along side the whole model.
• Finally fold the fabric at the bottom about 1cm to make a clean hem. And sew along the entire model. (Image G)

• With sewing pins attach purple edges to the green edges shown in Image H, matching each edge to its matching letter. (purple edge A to green edge A etc.)
• Sew edges to ether. When cover is complete, insert sponge in pocket and apply glue to set in its place.

• Finally, cut out 4 elastic strips, making sure they hold the width of the table
• Pin them down to the four corner of the table (Image J) and sew.
