How to Make a Delicious Iced Matcha Latte at Home

Matcha lattes are one of my all-time favorite drinks. Many people say matcha tastes like grass, and I understand why. The first time I tried matcha, I did not like it either, but once I learned how to make it at home, it became one of my favorite drinks. Making matcha is actually very simple and delicious. In this guide, I will teach you step by step how to make a creamy, refreshing iced matcha latte. Even if you have never made matcha before, it will be straightforward.
Supplies

- Matcha powder
- Milk of your choice (I prefer oat milk)
- Creamer (I use the Sweet Cream Chobani creamer)
- Vanilla syrup or honey
- Heavy whipping cream
- Vanilla extract
- Matcha whisk or electric frother
- Small sifter
- Bowl
- ¼ cup of warm water (two if using a whisk)
- Measuring spoons
- Ice
- Cup
Sift the Matcha Powder

- Place your sifter over a bowl or cup.
- Add one and a half to two tablespoons of matcha powder, depending on how strong you like it.
- Sift the matcha until it is fine and smooth.
Tip: The color of your matcha depends on the quality of the powder. I’m using Jade Leaf matcha, which makes it appear lighter green. The higher the quality, the more vibrant the color. I recommend trying the matcha from Coffee Bean — it’s one of my favorites!
Warm the Water

- Pour a quarter cup of water into a microwave-safe cup and heat it for forty-five to fifty seconds.
- If you are using a matcha whisk, soak it in another cup of warm water for about two minutes to soften the bristles. If you are using a frother, skip this step.
Mix the Matcha

If you are using a whisker:
- Add one and a half tablespoons of warm water to the sifted matcha and whisk in a W motion until a paste forms.
- Add one more tablespoon of warm water and whisk again until smooth and slightly frothy.
If you are using a frother:
- Add two tablespoons of warm water to the matcha and froth until foamy.
- Add one more tablespoon of warm water and froth again until well mixed.
Prepare the Drink Base

- Fill your cup with ice.
- Pour in your milk of choice until the cup is about three-fourths full.
- Add one tablespoon of vanilla syrup or honey for sweetness.
Make the Cold Foam

- In a cup, combine two tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, one cap of vanilla extract, and two tablespoons of creamer.
- Froth it until the mixture becomes foamy.
Assemble Your Drink

- Pour the matcha mixture over the iced milk.
- Gently pour the cold foam on top.
- You can stir it lightly.
Tip: Notice how my matcha isn’t super green? That’s just the powder quality! Higher-quality matcha gives a forest-green color. If you’re aiming for that color, check the quality before buying your powder!
Enjoy Your Drink

To enjoy matcha, it all comes down to how sweet you like it and the quality of the matcha you use. When I demonstrated this recipe, I used Jade Leaf matcha, which produces a lighter green color. It still tastes delicious, but higher-quality matcha will give a richer flavor and more vibrant color.
