In this set of instructions, you will be learning how to make a crochet chain. The crochet chain is the starting step in most large scale crochet projects like scarves, blankets, or sweaters. Get comfortable and let's start crocheting!

Supplies

  • Yarn or String
  • Crochet Needle or Fingers
  • Scissors

Tie a Loose Knot Around Your Finger or Crochet Needle.

Tie the Loose Knot a Second Time.

(This ensures that the loop will keep its integrity while completing the following steps.)

With Your Free Hand, Take the Long Side of the Yarn or String and Cross It Over Top of the Loop on Your Finger or Needle.

(Don’t be alarmed if the loop’s size increases, this will help.)

  • If using your fingers: once you lift the yarn or string, go underneath your bottom loop with your thumb and grip the top loop in between your thumb and index finger. (bottom right photo)

Pull This Loop Above the Tip of Your Needle or Finger.
