How to Make a Coffee Cake
We were looking for a good coffee cake recipe, but all the recipes we tried ended up drying out the cake or resulted in it not being fully cooked. We decided that we needed to create a recipe that would perfectly fit our desired cake.
- Needed to be moist while also being cooked
- Enough cinnamon topping
- Big enough to feed a lot of people
Follow along through this instructable, and you will have the best-tasting coffee cake of your life.
Supplies
First, you will need to gather your supplies. For this cake, you will need,
- Oven
- Microwave
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 2 medium mixing bowls
- 1 small mixing bowl
- 9x13 pan
- Measuring cup for liquid
- Measuring cups~1 cup, 1/2 cup
- Teaspoons~1/2 teaspoon and 1 teaspoon
- Wisk
- Baking spatula
- Cooking spray
- Aluminum foil
- Hand mitts
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/3 cup melted butter
Gather Materials
First, you will want to gather all of your supplies.

- Aluminum foil
- Hand mitts
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/3 cup melted butter
Preheat Oven
Next, you will want to preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Combine Wet Ingredients
In your large mixing bowl, combine:
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup of milk
Then mix it all together with your whisk.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In 1 of your medium mixing bowls, combine:
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Then mix with your freshly washed whisk.
Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients Together
Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir them together with the spatula.
Spray Pan
Spray the pan lightly with cooking spray.
Pour Half of the Batter
Pour half of the mixture into the pan and spread evenly
Make Your Streusel
In your second medium mixing bowl, make your streusel by combining:
- 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
Then mix with your whisk.
Pour Half of the Streusel
Then sprinkle a little less than half of the streusel on top of the batter and spread it evenly.
Pour the Rest of the Batter
Pour the rest of your batter on top of the streusel in your pan and spread it evenly.

Pour the rest of the streusel in the pan and spread evenly.
Melt the Butter
Place 1/3 cup of butter into a small bowl. Put it in the microwave and melt it for 1 minute, or until fully melted.
Drizzle the Butter
Drizzle the butter over the cake evenly.
Cover Cake With Aluminum Foil
Cover the top of the pan with aluminum foil.
Put Cake Into Oven
Carefully place the pan into the oven with hand mitts.
Cook the Cake
Cook the covered cake for 27 minutes.
Take the Cake Out of the Oven
When the timer is up, carefully take the covered pan out with hand mitts.
Remove the Aluminum Foil and Place Back Into the Oven
Take the aluminum foil off, and place the cake back in the oven for 18 minutes or until there are no more puddles of butter.
Take the Cake Out of Oven and Let It Sit
When the cake is ready to be taken out of the oven, use hand mitts and let it cool for 5 minutes.
All Done!
Your cake is now ready!
