How to Make a Calming Bottle
These are the directions for making a calming bottle. These bottles are useful for children and adults in helping them to relax, focus, and relieve stress or anxiety.
Supplies
- plastic 16-ounce bottle with lid
- 8 ounces clear liquid glue
- 2 cups water
- 2 cup glass measuring cup
- microwave
- extra fine glitter (any color)
- food coloring (any color)
- funnel
- small spoon
- small lightweight items to place in bottle (optional)
- glue gun (recommended)
Prepare the Bottle
- Clean the plastic bottle.
- Peel off any labels.
Heat Water
Heat 1 cup of water in the microwave for 2 minutes.
***Caution: Handle with care as contents will be hot.
Combine Liquids
- Use a funnel to pour 1 cup of hot water and ½ cup of clear liquid glue into the bottle.
- Add 5 drops of food coloring.
- Place the lid on the bottle tightly and shake to mix.
Add Glitter and Optional Items
- Add 1-2 spoonfuls of glitter.
- Gently swirl the bottle to mix.
- Add the lightweight items to the bottle (optional).
Adjust Settling Time
- Add water to fill to one inch from the top.
- Tighten the lid on the bottle.
- Gently shake the bottle to mix.
- Time how long the glitter takes to settle. 2 minutes is ideal.
- If it is too quick, pour out some liquid and add more glue.
- If it is too slow, pour out some liquid and add more water.
- Fill the bottle ½ inch from top.
- Allow the bottle to cool to room temperature.
Secure Lid on Bottle
(Optional: Prevents accidental opening)
- Allow glue gun to heat up (time varies by glue gun)
- Remove the lid.
- Using glue gun, put hot glue around the inside edge of the lid.
***Caution: Tip of glue gun and glue are hot and can burn. Carefully hold lid on outside edge to prevent getting burned.
- Put the lid back on the bottle.
