How to Make a Cake From Scratch
Are you ever in a mood for a fresh out of the oven homemade vanilla cake? Well I can teach you how in a few simple steps!
Why make this?
This sweet cake will brighten up your day!
Supplies
The supplies you will need is two 9-inch round cake pans, electric mixer, a toothpick, spatula, large bowl. The ingredients needed are 1 stick softened unsalted butter, 2 1/4 cups of flour (plus extra for coating pans), 1 1/3 cups of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of whole milk, and finally two large eggs.
Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees F
Set oven to 350 degrees. While it is preheating, prepare your cake.
Butter and Flour Cake Pans
Evenly spread the butter and the flour over the cake pans so the batter will not stick to the pans while baking.
Mix All of the Dry Ingredients Together in One Large Bowl
Combine the sugar, flour, salt, and baking powder in the bowl, and mix with a spatula.
Add Butter
Divide the stick of butter into 2 tablespoon pieces. Then with the mixer on the lowest speed, add each chunk of butter one at a time in order for it to mix properly. You should know when to stop mixing when their are no large chunks, and you are left with a grainy texture.
Add Wet Ingredients
Now it is time to start adding your liquid ingredients one at a time. First you add your vanilla extract, and then at medium speed, you slowly add in your milk. You should mix for about a minute, and the texture should be smooth but thick.
Add Eggs
Add in both of your eggs one at a time and mix for about 30 seconds. The consistency should be silky and fluffy.
Pour Batter Into Pans
Pour batter evenly into both of your pans. Solidly tap the countertop to release any trapped air bubbles.
Place Cake Batter in the Oven
Bake for 30-35 minutes.
When Cake Is Ready...
When your cake is ready, grab a toothpick and place it in the center of the cake. If the cake does not stick to the toothpick the cake is finished.
Cool Cakes
Cool cakes before frosting for an hour.
Frost
This is where you get creative! You can do any type of frosting or design that is appealing to you. For example, I added confetti sprinkles after I frosted.
Enjoy
Now it is finally time to eat your delicious masterpiece!
