How to Make a 3D Printed Pulley

13.PNG

Hello, in this short tutorial I will demonstrate how easy it is to create a 3D printed pulley for your use in any application!

Supplies

Fusion 360

Create a Sketch

1.PNG

First open up Fusion 360 and click the "Create a sketch" button in the top right corner of the tool bar. In the top right corner there will be a 3d cube with different coloured axis on it, here select the "Top" view.

Next using the origin as your center draw a straight line. select how long you want it as this will be the radius of your hole in the center of the pulley.

Creating the Body of the Pulley

Using the rectangle tool draw a square box from the edge of the line to as far out as you want the pulley's radius and width to be, for example my radius for the pulleys hole was 5mm, I drew a box 15mm outwards and 15mm upwards. This means my pulley will be 20mm in radius and 40mm in diameter, as well as 15mm in width.

Creating the Belt Groove

Next using the circle tool create the groove for the pulley, this is where the belt will go. Make sure your circle is in the centre of the line. Then choose how large or small you would like the groove for the belt to be, i made mine 11mm in diameter, but you can choose whatever measurements will suit your need.

Remove Unnecessary Lines

10.PNG

Using the cut tool, (The black pair of scissors in the tool bar) remove any unnecessary lines from your sketch, make sure to leave the initial line we made for the hole there, if you remove something important by accident you can use the undo button in the top left of the screen.

Then just click finish sketch in the top right corner when you are done.

Revolve You Pulley

Next, select the "Revolve" tool from the tool bar and click on the square body you made with the groove in it. then click on the Y axis running through the origin. Next a box will appear asking for you to enter how many degrees you wish to rotate your pulley by. Type "360" in the box and click enter.

Your sketch should have rotated 360 degrees as did mine in the image above

Congratulations
