How to Make Your Puppet Make a Sound With Nintendo LABO

TANG.png

This is an easy Instructable that makes your puppet make a noise when you open its mouth. It takes about 3-5 minutes. I came up with it when I saw my dragon puppet (Jerry the Dragon) in my room, and thought about a ventriloquism act I saw on AGT (America's Got Talent). I thought it would be cool to make the puppets make a noise without any actual talking required.

Supplies

You will need the following:

- A puppet (that you can control its mouth with your hand)

- A Nintendo Switch console (tablet)

- 2 Nintendo controllers (Joy-Cons) (1 left and 1 right)

- Nintendo LABO (Variety Kit, Robot Kit, Vehicle Kit, or VR Kit)

Take the console out of the dock. Then put the Nintendo LABO card into the switch. Tap on the game that shows up (LABO) and then tap "Discover". Once there, at the bottom of your screen, you should see a sewer that says "Toy-Con Garage" (If you haven't opened it before, it will say "Secret lab"). You should now be at a large grid pattern (If you haven't opened it before, it will give you a quick tutorial). Now tap the button at the bottom left-hand corner called "Input". With the drop-up menu that appears, tap "If the Joy-Con Is Face-Up". When it asks you what Joy-Con you want to be effective, select either one. When the block appears on the screen, tap the gear button at the bottom left-hand corner of the block. When it asks which side should be face up tap "Top". Then tap the "X" in the top right-hand corner. After that, tap the "Input" button again, but this time select, "If a Button Is Pressed" and select either controller. Now, tap on the "Output" button in the bottom right-hand corner. With the pop-up menu that appears, tap, "Make Sound", and tap on any note. Then, drag the blue part of it so a white line follows where your finger goes, and connect it to the red part of the sound block. Tap on the gear of the sound block (if the gear goes away, just tap the block and it will come back) and experiment with different sounds. To listen to the currently selected sound, just press a button on the controller you made effective if a button on it got pressed. I would recommend changing to "SFX 1" or "SFX 2" and experiment there. Once you've found the right sound, tap on the button block's gear and tap delete (at the top). Now connect the "If the Joy-Con Is Face-Up" Block to the sound block.

Test

This step is much easier than the previous step. Make sure the volume is all the way up on your Switch. Put the selected controller horizontally, then tilt it vertically. Did it make your sound? if so, good job! Just one more step to go! If it didn't make your sound, review step 1 again.

Putting the Joy-Con In

Put the selected Joy-Con into the top part where 4 of your fingers go. Test and put your hand in and move his mouth open and closed. Did it work? Congrats! You made your puppet make a sound!
