Make your very own Halo 3 in foam! This is a fun project to work on and it doesn't take too long to complete!

Supplies

Materials:

  • EVA Foam (Can be bought many places cheaply as training mats)
  • 5mm EVA foam and 1mm EVA foam (I buy this at my local hobby store)
  • Hot Glue, and lots of it.
  • Silicon to cover small seems.
  • Primer
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Wood burner or a soldering iron for finer details.

Blueprint

Print the picture of the rifle. You will need to print it on multiple A4 sheets of paper.

Then you can trace the shape and start divide it into sections.

Start on the First Layer

I personally split the blueprint into two sections. One section being the stock and the second the barrel and grip.

For finer details you can use a woodburning pen (thats the tool i used)

Combine the Two Sections and Start on the Second Layer of Details

I used a wooden rod in the middle to make the prop more sturdy and then proceeded to add the second layer of thinner foam (green) for detailing.

Sanding and Filing

Now was the time to start smoothing the edges and giving the foam the desired shape. I used a dremel for most of this process.

Final Layer of Detailing

Add the final layer of thinner foam (red). I also made a diy movable "bolt" using a door lock, a bolt and several nuts.

Electronics

I wanted to give the rifle that little extra. So using a simple protoboard, a couple of resistors and some wires i added some light to the prop. I printed a picture of the ammo screen and glued it to a transparent piece of plastic. Also added a switch and a green led to the side of the screen.

Priming and Painting

I used a matte white color for the primer and then i painted the rest of the gun using acrylic paint.
