How to Make Vintage Bottlecap Magnets
There are a lot of bottlecap magnet tutorials out there, but I happen to LOVE all things vintage, so I took it to another level with clippings from old (vintage) magazines. Vintage magazines have such unique colors, beautifully yellowed pages, with fun and quirky images. Vintage clippings make this ordinary gift into something unique and special! And, you can pick up a vintage '50s magazine at your local antique shop for a couple bucks.

- 1" paper hole punch
- small (cheap) paintbrush
- cardstock
- Mod Podge
- glue stick
- Enviro Tex Lite High Gloss Finish
- 3/8" round magnets (earth magnets)
- E6000 craft glue
- bottlecaps (flat inside)
Making Your Paper Circles
First, cut out 1" circles from your card stock and then cut out all of your graphics and/or text that you want from your old magazines. Use your glue stick to quickly and easily adhere your vintage clippings to your cardstock circles, and let them dry completely.
If you find that you've been a little sloppy in keeping things inside the circle, then just trim any unsightly overhang from around the circle edges after they've dried. Easy fix! :)

Gluing Circles Into Bottlecaps
You'll want to use your brush to apply a generous amount of Mod Podge inside your bottle caps, then gently place your circles (face up) in your bottle caps and gently press them into place.
Now, this is optional, but you can add another layer of Mod Podge OVER your cardstock circles and allow to dry for a day. This is what I did, and it gives it a matte (vintage-y) look before adding the final gloss finish.

Adding the High Gloss Finish
Get your bottle caps ready and laid out on waxed paper or in an old pan, so you don't make a mess. Now, carefully mix the Enviro Tex Lite High Gloss Finish according to directions. This is important because this stuff is toxic, so please be careful and follow the directions.
Ok, so when your mix is ready, slowly pour a *small* amount in each bottlecap. I only filled them with a thin layer because the more you add, the heavier your magnets will be. If you start with a small amount, then you can tilt each bottle cap in all directions until the mix fully covers your paper (will create a seal where paper meets edge of bottlecap). If you decide you want to add more at this point, that's entirely up to you.
EnviroTex Lite requires a unique process to get rid of the little surface bubbles that show up after pouring - carefully hold the bottlecap up in front of your mouth and gently exhale your warm breath over the bottlecap. You will be amazed how the bubbles just disappear completely! Do not inhale fumes at any time.
Place your bottle caps in an open, warm room, covered with waxed paper (to prevent dust or hair from settling on it) to cure for 2-3 days. When they're completely dry (they will be rock hard to the touch), use your E6000 glue to adhere your earth magnets to the backside of the bottle cap. Let it dry and you're done!
I usually do these in large batches for friends and relatives, making sets of them. They are SO PRETTY :)
