How to Make Throwing Darts
I show how to make some simple throwing darts using straws, plastic thumb tacks, and a piece of paper. The straws can easily be found at most fast food restaurants, but any straw that you can fit a plastic thumb tack into will work. The thumb tack must be the kind with the plastic grip and not the flat tacks. The straw will be cut to the length of a typical throwing dart. Then the tack will be glued into one end of the straw and the paper will be cut into 3 or 4 stabilizing fins and glued to the opposite side of the straw. It should now look similar to a throwing dart. The Dart can have pretty good accuracy but it depends on how well you align the stabilizing fins.
I also show how to make a launcher from a pen and an elastic band that is used to propel the dart quickly and with force. When using the launcher angle it forward with your hand close to the bottom of the pen to make sure it doesn’t hit you if it doesn’t launch properly. The darts can be used like regular throwing darts in a typical game or like archery arrows and shot for accuracy and range. A dart board can be substituted with a cork board and a piece of paper with a dartboard printed or drawn onto it. Be careful when throwing these and always use good judgement and caution as they can potentially be dangerous, take all of the necessary safety precautions.
Darts are missile weapons, designed to fly such that a sharp, often weighted point will strike first. They can be distinguished from javelins by fetching (i.e., feathers on the tail) and a shaft that is shorter and/or more flexible and from arrows by the fact that they are not of the right length to use with a normal bow.
