How to Make Simple Upcycled Watch Face Earrings
Do you have some old watches that don't work anymore or maybe you just don't wear them? If you do I have a fun little project to share.
Today's project is a quick and easy way to make some fun and quirky earrings by upcycling old watch parts. I have made these watch face earrings before to sell at a local shop. You can find my original post here. They are fun and easy to make and always different. Part of the fun is figuring out how to match up the watch faces into pairs.
In today's post, I have a new technique to share. This technique allows the watch hands to remain on the face of the watch. (in the previous version only the watch plate was used)
Anyway in this version the earrings have a little more weight to them as the watch mechanism is left on as well. You can decide which version you like better but I think they are cuter with the watch hands intact.
Like I said the process is very simple. You do need to start with two watches that have similar faces or at least make a pair that you like.
Supplies

- 2 old watches
- a washcloth or small towel
- paring knife
- glossy mod podge
- cordless drill
- jump rings
- earring hook
- needle nose pliers
- center punch
Remove Watch Back.
The first step is a little tricky. I am sorry but I didn't get a very good picture to show the technique. There are more details in the video tutorial if you need them. I used a small pairing knife to carefully pop the backs of the watches off.
Remove From Casing and Seal With Mod Podge
After the back is off the watch face and the watch mechanism can be removed. You may have to break the watch pin or winding pin I guess I don't really know what it is called. :-)
Once the watch face was out of the case I removed the battery and brushed a coat of glossy mod podge on both sides.
Drill Small Hole
Once the mod podge is dry use a cordless drill and small drill bit to carefully make a small hole at the top of the watch face.
Attach Earring Hook
The last step is to add the earring hooks using a jump ring and some needle-nose pliers.
Make Some Extras to Give As Gifts
It's fun and easy so I made a few other pairs. They are all unique and one of a kind so you might even want more than one pair. They make great gifts too.
If you are interested you can find them for purchase here in my eBay store. And for more details to make your own be sure to check out the video tutorial below.
Thanks for checking out my project.
Happy Upcycling,
