How to Make Reusable Hand Warmers

Basic Sewing Skills Required Follow these steps to create simple, microwavable hand warmers with raw rice and fabric scrap. A heart warming homemade stuff, this project can be made with fabric scraps or with inexpensive cloth from the local garment store.

Materials Required for Microwavable Hand Warmers :-

• Fabric Scrap
• Scissor
• Sewing Thread
• Sewing Needle
• Raw Rice
• Paper ( for Heart Design)
• Pencil
• Essential Oil (Optional)

Note:- Be careful with sewing needle, accidentally I pinched my fingers few times and after Microwave Rice Aroma will be surrounded, so add essential oil if you're not okay with smells.

After drawing the piece with the paper heart, draw the exact size on the fabric and cut 4 hearts from it.
Cut 4 Heart pieces and sew in pairs.

Cut the heart shapes using the paper heart layout and sew the heart shapes in pairs with a up and down stitching pattern at the edges of the fabric.

Put rice in the open side of the heart. (A funnel can make this step easier.) Do not overfill - you want to leave enough room to close the last edge. Optional: Add one or two drops of essential oil such as lavender or jasmine to the rice. It will smell good when the hand warmers are heated.

Remove the funnel paper backing from the fabric and seal the edges of the heart.

For use, heat the hand warmer in the microwave for 30 seconds and it will stay warm for at least 30 minutes. Put one in each coat pocket on each cold day and keep your fingers warm!

Since, I do not have a proper heating device, I came up with the idea of a thermometer to check the temperature, which is pretty lame idea, but still I manged to show measurements, where L (indicates low or temp with no heat) and H (indicates with high with temp with above 105°F).

For use, warm the hand warmer in the microwave for 30 seconds and it will stay warm for at least 30 minutes. Put one in each coat pocket on each cold day and keep your fingers warm!

These little hand warmers make great stuff or small gifts for a large group. Make a set of two and tie them together with ribbon; Add a gift tag with instructions on how to use them.
