Supplies

You will need:

  1. Paper towel
  2. A bowl of water (just a little)
  3. Baking soda
  4. And something to stir

Mixing the Baking Soda and Water

I first added a little bit of baking soda. The one I was using was a bit old, so it was a bit clumpy. Then add a little bit of water, and stir.

Dip Your Paper Towel

Now you want to grab your paper towel. I folded mine in half so it would fit. Dip it in, and then bring it back out, unfolding it.

Let It Dry

Now that you have it all dried, you want to lay it out to dry. I put mine on a piece of cardboard because I did not want this to get on my desk.

How Recovery Wadding Works

Recovery wadding prevents damage to the parachute by functioning as a flame-resistant barrier. The baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is not flammable. And not only that, but this can be used to extinguish small fires, because it releases carbon dioxide when heated, which smothers the flames.
