How to Make Puppy Chow Chex Snack With an Electric Burner

Caution

Double Boiler bowl will be hot

Use of steam to melt chocolate

Gather Ingredients and Supplies

- 3 cups crispy rice cereal squares

- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

- 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter

- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

- 1/2 cup powdered sugar

- 2 Large Bowls (Metal or Glass)

- 1 Medium Sauce Pan

- 1 ½ cups of water

- 1 Gallon Zip-lock bag

- Newspaper

- 1 Baking sheet pan

- Parchment paper

- Measuring cups

- 1 large spoon, 1 small spoon

- Butter knife

- Single burner

-1 Oven Mitts (optional)

Cover Work Area

-Spread out newspapers over your main workspace in order to avoid a mess and speed up the cleanup process.

Set Up Double Boiler

- Pour water into a medium saucepan until about halfway full

- Place the saucepan on the single burner

- Plug in the single burner and set to medium heat or set on 5 or 6

- Allow water to come to a low boil (small bubbles should be forming)

- Place the smaller bowl on the saucepan. Make sure the water is not touching the bottom of the bowl.

Measure Out Cereal

- Measure out 3 cups of Rice Chex Cereal, using measuring cups and place into the large bowl and set aside

Prepare the Baking Sheet

- Take the baking sheet and set it on a flat surface

- Cut a piece of parchment paper to cover the baking sheet

-Set aside for later

Melt the Chocolate

-Turn the heat to low ( 3 or 4)

- Pour 1/2 cup of Semi-Sweet chocolate chips, 1/4 cup of Peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of butter into saucepan pan

-Use of oven mitts to protect from steam escaping the bowl is recommended

- Stir the mixture frequently while melting

- Melt until the mixture is smooth and creamy

* Make sure to unplug the burner when finished!

Mix the Chocolate/Peanut Butter Mixture Into the Cereal

- Pour Chocolate mixture into the Bowl with the Chex cereal

- Mix the chocolate and cereal carefully so not to break the Chex

- Mix until the Cereal is coated with the Chocolate equally

Coat Chex With Powdered Sugar

- Pour the Cereal from the bowl into a Gallon Ziploc bag

- Measure out 1/2 cup of Powdered Sugar and pour into the bag

- Seal the bag fully

- Shake the bag until the Cereal looks mostly covered with the Powdered sugar

Cool the Puppy Chow

- Open the Ziploc bag and pour the Puppy Chow on the Baking Sheet

- Spread the Chow out equally on the pan that was covered with Parchment Paper earlier

- Let set on the pan until the Puppy Chow is cooled fully

- Or put the Chow in the refrigerator to cool faster

Store the Puppy Chow

- After the Puppy Chow is cooled fully put the snack in an airtight bowl

- Eat or share Puppy Chow for up to a Week

- Enjoy!
