How to Make Over Old Purse to a Designer One

I truly love Traditional wear and accessories, and this is my favorite traditional work which is known as KUTCH ART. This is a traditional artwork from Gujarat, India.

Originally it made up with colorful threads and different sized mirrors. People do embroidery with their hands and put mirrors within the design.

But here I want to makeover this on one of my most used purse, and on the place of Hand embroidery, I have done liquid embroidery.

Here we will discuss step by step, so first I have given a base coat as it was so discolored already.

For the base color, I have chosen Black Acrylic color, dabbing sponge (You can also use decoupage sponge). No other material needed except one pallet, where you need to pour the color and some tissue papers dab out the extra colors. let's start the process.

Take some color on the color pallet. You should not pour plenty amount of color at the same time on the color pallet, because if you do so then it will absorb all your sponge and make the material sticky later.

So do one thing, pour a little amount of color on the pallet, then dab it with a decoupage sponge.

Dab the extra color on a tissue paper before applying over the material.

It's not mandatory to dab on the tissue paper all the time. If you pick up an adequate amount of the color, it has no harm to apply it to the material directly.

You should dab gently and it will spread all over the surface so easily.

If the color gets ride over the metal zip or lock. Do not worry about that, because, acrylic color is not so good for metal, so you can easily wipe it off once it gets dried.

Do step by step, mean first do the upper part, let it dry then do the backside of the material. Otherwise, it will give a messy look.

After drying, start the mark the design with a pencil or chalk, so that it will easy to draw a further line with color.

I kept the design simple and did so Geometric patterns first.

And yes always manage to do the design from the upper part and then move toward down. Or you can start the design from one corner and move towards the opposite.

As I did some triangular patterns with a pencil, then I followed it with a 3D outliner.

This is the embroidery design which traditionally done by thread and needle. Here I am going to draw this with acrylic liners, and I want it to look like embroidery stitching by its outlook.

First I have drawn some straight lines with Gold 3d liner( It also avail in the name of Liquid Embroidery), You can make it as a Running stitching continuous line too. And then fill the gap between the two lines wave pattern, which will resemble the Cable chain pattern if you are considering the actual embroidery design.

In this manner, I have completed all the basic lines.

always start coloring from one side and move towards the opposite gradually. Never do as here and there, it will mess up surly somewhere. Be conscious about this, because 3D liners are not getting dry so easily as the normal acrylic colors. You can do it with acrylic colors and brushes but the projected texture of the 3D outliner gives you a better outlook.

Now further I move with white outliner and some diamond shape design.

I have put, different colors though its the same design. So that it will look elegant with minimum effort.

Now it is time to fill the design with some embroidery stitch design. So I have chosen stretch stitch pattern and Orange and Yellow 3D outliners to fill the color alternatively.

At one place, I did Zigzag stitches with Light green 3D outliner.

Again I filled the gap with Cable chain embroidery pattern and Neon Pink color.

To decorate the Diamond shapes I have chosen the same stitch pattern and different colors which are a contrast to each other like, pink, orange, yellow, blue.

Now moving towards the further pattern, and this time here I did some floral designs as shown.

Did some heart shapes which overlap each other (Siver 3D liner) and on the opposite corner I have stated some geometric yet floral designs(used Light green and Orange 3D liners).

Again, I have drawn some embroidery patterns within the design, and I did Honeycomb embroidery stitch pattern to fill the designs. The colors I have chosen are Neon Green, Yellow, Neon pink and orange.

And moving towards the next step keeping the heart shape blank.

Then I have drawn a few more lines and fill it with some cross stitch pattern and some with the stretch stitch pattern. You can follow the pictures for a detailed understanding.

Then draw some pattern on the lower part too, and I kept it simple and put the triangular shape again and over.

I have mentioned all the color's names before, so I am skipping it and not discussing it further.

And moreover, I have managed to do most of my coloring parts finish here and moving to the next step.

Now its time to put mirrors over the design. Because no Gujarati's work gets complete without mirrors. Either its a Lippan kaam or Kutch embroidery, they always put some mirrors and undoubtedly it enhances the beauty of the product suddenly.

They put the mirror first and embedded it with colorful threads all around the mirrors.

Here first I took some round shape small size glass mirrors and some Kundans(Reinstones) too.

I have stuck the glass mirrors with the help of craft glue. And at the place embedded with threads, I have given a 3D outlining around each mirror. For that, I have again chosen different colors. And yes I have filled the blank heart shapes too.

They are very good at their tassel work too with colorful threads.

So I have taken some colorful threads and a piece of paper. Roll the thread repeatedly around the piece of paper. Repeat the same procedure at least 40 to 50 turns.

Now cut one side of the rolled thread and tie the other side, and the tassel is ready. And likewise, I have made many numbers.

Now I take the all-purpose glue to stick it on the edge. If you want you can sew the tassel too. But this can easily be done by sticking it with this glue.

Now let the material get dry completely. It takes more than 6 to 7 hours. And the main thing on the 3D outliner is, its colors give a more pop look when it dried up.

And now I can use my handbag again with a more beautiful outlook.
