Implement your Design onto a computer that is connected to Handibot. You will have to zero out handibot and create a new file. You can create your designs digitally. Then before you start the machine up, you will have to choose the bit size. This will determine how thick the words you engrave on your wave riding machine will be. You can place the wood into handibot and within minutes it will cut your design out.

Step 2

Before you get carried away and want to finish, bind and ride your handboard you need to sand it. Handibot has its imperfections and typically you will need to sand your untreated wood. I chose to use a power sander to do this job and we had fine sandpaper (about 100). The electric sander is powerful and you do not want to sand imperfections into the design.

Your wood will probably have some imperfections and it is vital it is watertight and water resistant. Kawika and I chose to use danish oil finish, Gloss: no odor polyurethane, stainable wood fill and a paint brush to spread the finish about the board, thin coat on top and bottom. I used the wood filler to fix this one crack in the board so ensure that it is watertight and will not get waterlogged. It can take several hours for all of the finished and gloss' to dry. I started off filling the wood then coating it with finish then Kawika glossed it.

Step 4

Cut out the fire hose to be used as a hand strap. We used a small electric sander and measured it to be around 8 inches long. You will have to use the drill and small screws (depending on how thick your board is) to secure it to the board. It should not be too tight but it also should not too loose where you would loose your wave riding device.

Step 5 (optional)

You can use plexiglass to bind the bottom of your board but I decided not to because I found that it would create drag and not work well.
