How to Make Goulash

image5.jpg

Goulash is a traditional Egyptian dish that is not well known in the United States, but is very common for a Ghaly family. We have written this Instructable for anyone who wants to learn a different culture's cuisine. This goulash is not the same as the eastern European pasta style dish, but something different altogether. In this recipe, phyllo dough replaces the pasta that's used in the traditional eastern European dish . It is a simple, yet delicious recipe that you can enjoy with friends and family!

1.5 lbs ground beef

1 tbsp meat seasoning of choice

1 tsp chili powder

1.5 cups of milk

2 eggs

This will ensure that your oven is ready when the dish is done being prepped so you won't have to wait for it.

Combine the Ground Beef, Meat Seasoning, Chili Powder, and Chopped Onion.

In the large bowl mix your meat seasoning, chili powder, ground beef, and chopped onion. This will be the filling that goes into the phyllo dough.

In the stove top pan, cook the meat filling, stir using the wooden spoon to ensure it is fully browned.

Grease Your Pan

Take your 15x21 pan and use butter or oil to grease it, this will prevent the dough from sticking to ensure an easy removal.

Lay Out and Prep the Dough

Take 2-3 sheets of the phyllo dough and lay them in your greased pan. You are then going to use oil or butter and spread it over the top of the dough using the food brush.

Add the Meat Filling

Evenly spread the meat filling over the layers of dough using the wooden spoon. This will make the dish cook evenly and make it easier to cut later.

Add More Dough

On top of the freshly spread meat filling, add 2-3 more sheets of phyllo dough to create the top layer.

Cut the Dough

Before cooking make sure to cut the dough into squares, this can be portioned to your preference.

Make the Egg Wash

Combine and mix the eggs and milk in the small bowl to create the egg wash. Take the egg wash and spread it generously over the top of the dough using the food brush. Add salt and pepper to the top as desired.

Put in the Oven for Around 25 Minutes

We recommend checking it at 25 minutes, if it seems like it needs a little more time to cook then 28 minutes is also okay.
