How to Make Flower Shaped Samosa
Snack food you make at home can be made very attractive by shaping them differently. Here I have shaped the Samosas, which are normally made in a triangular shape to a flower shape
Make Filling : Boil and Mash Potato
First we will make the filling for Samosas
- Boil one large sized Potato , remove the skin and mash it
Make Filling : Ingredients
- One Onion chopped
- 5 Garlic cloves chopped
- Half Teaspoon of red chilli powder
- Half a teaspoon of Turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoons of Coriander powder
- Half teaspoon of Asafoetida powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 Green chillies chopped
- A small piece of ginger chopped
- Few coriander leaves chopped
Make Filling
- Heat oil in a pan and add onion and garlic pieces
- Add other ingredients to the pan and stir fry till raw smell disappears
- Lastly add the mashed potato and make the filling
You can make many different kind of fillings. Mashed Potato filling I made here is just for demonstration
Roll Batter to Shape
- Place the already prepared dough on the rolling board and dust lightly with flour
- Roll and flatten the dough as thin as possible using a roller pin
- Cut a square piece from the rolled dough
Shape Dough Into Flower Shape
- Take one square piece and fold the corners inside to triangles
- Turn over the folded piece and place a lemon sized filling inside
- Bring corners over the filling to center
- Press all joints and center with fingers without any gap
- Turn over the piece and pull the folded corners out to make a flower shape
Now our flower shapes are completed
Deep Fry and Serve
- Heat oil in a pan and deep fry each piece separately
- Turn the pieces in oil for other side to fry
- Take out from oil and place the samosas in an oil absorbing paper
I have slightly over-fried the first one as I was afraid that the flower shape will break in oil. but the shapes remain during deep frying also.
Make these flower shaped Samosas and serve hot as an evening snack with coffee or tea.
