How to Make Flan

When I was younger enjoyed cooking with my great grandma. She used to find recipes out of this worn out blue cook book. A recipe I still remember is the recipe for Flan. Flan is a Custard like dessert with a caramel coating on top.

Supplies

What you will need is a: Blender, Pressure cooker, Vanilla, 4 eggs, 4 Cups of Granulated Sugar, 1 can of Condensed Milk, 1 Can of Evaporated Milk, Water, Salt, and a small Flan Mold

Preparing the Caramel

Start by adding 4 cups of sugar to the Flan mold and 4 teaspoons of water and stir with a spoon. Once it is all combined then stop stirring.

When sugar and water are both combined put the Flan mold on the stove on low heat. Wait until the sugar turns into a golden brown.

Melting Sugar Well

After the sugar turns into a golden brown color, turn off the stove and wait 5 minutes. If the sugar is taking a long time to turn into a brownish color, turn up the stove to medium, but watch it well so it does not burn. You will know it is burnt when it starts to smell strongly. Set it aside and wait for the sugar to cool a bit.

Blending Ingredients

While you are waiting for the sugar to cool, take and add to the blender, 1 full cup of Condensed and Evaporated Milk. After that add a teaspoon of salt, a splash of vanilla, and 4 eggs. Blend all the things well until all the items are incorporated.

Combining Both Sides

When you are done blending all the ingredients, take and spread evenly all the sugar on the sides of the mold. After that ,pour the ingredients into the mold with the cool sugar. Then take and clip the lid closed.

Adding Water

Put the mold into the pressure cooker and add water until the mold is half way with water.

Pressure Cooking

Turn on the stove on high and place the closed pressure cooker, with the mold inside of it, on the stove. Wait approximately 45 minutes.

Cooling

After 45 minutes, carefully, put it in the fridge and wait an hour until cooled.

Serving

Once it is cooled, open the mold, take and flip it upside down and put it on a plate.

Toppings

Now you can add whatever toppings you want. I added strawberry icing.

Plating

Finally Cut and serve how you like.

Final Thoughts

I think that this a good dessert to make if you tired of eating things like cupcakes and cake. It also does not need that many ingredients. It only take a couple hours to make and can serve many people.
