How to Make Easter Rice Krispie Treats
Do you ever want a simple dessert to have in the house that requires little ingredients and time? Well your on the right recipe. A lot of times I just want some simple Rice Krispie Treats, but don't want to eat the gross packaged ones. The ones that are full of artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, and all the other unhealthy things and so gross. No offense to those companies who make those. I mean all you really need for these are 3 ingredients: marshmallows, rice krispie cereal, and butter, so it doesn't make sense as to why the packaged ones are packed with so much stuff. I swear the ingredient list is longer than the nutrition label. If you agree with everything just mentioned, then this is the best recipe for you. Plus if Easter is coming up, these are the perfect things to get you in the spirit. So enjoy. ;)
What You'll Need: Ingredients & Materials
Ingredients:
Total:
6 tablespoons of butter
Pink, yellow, green, and blue food coloring
2 10.5 oz bags of mini marshmallows
12 cups of rice krispie cereal
Each color:
1.5 tablespoons of butter
5-8 drops of food coloring
½ of the 10.5 oz bag of mini marshmallows
3 cups of rice krispie cereal
Materials:
1 large glass mixing bowl
1 metal bowl
1 small metal pot
Tablespoon and 1 cup measure
Rubber spatula (Possibly 4 different ones)
1 casserole dish
1 can of nonstick spray
Small amount of butter and paper towel
Coating Your Dish
This step is not very precise at all. You just need to take that tablespoon of butter, NOT the butter for the rice krispie treats and smear it all around the pan with the paper towel. Sides and all. After this is done take a new paper towel and wipe off most of the butter so the taste isn't to string of butter.
Melting Your Butter
Next, simply heat the stovetop on medium/low heat. Once you wait a few seconds for it to get hot, add the small amount of butter to the pot. Yes, use the butter for the rice krispie treats. If the butter is having a hard time melting turn up the heat, if not just wait until it is fully melted.
Adding the Color
After the butter is fully melted add ONE of the colors (check ingredients for amount) to the butter. After this set the color aside and do NOT use it again. Mix the butter with a rubber spatula, and your done with this step.
Melting Your Marshmallows
Then, you are going to add you mini marshmallow to you butter and color mixture. Use the rubber spatula that you just used to mix the marshmallow. Now pay close attention because you don't want to burn the marshmallows. When you mix the marshmallow spray the spatula with non-stick spray. After they are fully/almost melted you can add more food coloring if you aren't happy with it already.
Moving Them Into a Bowl
This next step might get messy. Grab the large glass bowl and put it close/next to the pot and stove top. Spray some non stick spray inside the bowl to help the stickiness. USE POT HOLDING GLOVES, you do not want to get burned. Pour the gooey marshmallows into the bowl (you might need some help with this unless you can hold the pot with one hand). Don't forget to turn off the stove. Tip: What I did right after the marshmallows went in the bowl was immediately put hot water and soap in the bowl, because there might have been some marshmallow and you don't want it to get stuck.
Mixing in the Cereal
You might need some help with this step too, or at least need to stop a lot. Use the same spatula you have been using, spray with non stick spray and mix in the correct amount of cereal. Mix until completely combined. Simple.
Pouring Your Mixture Into the Dish
After your rice krispies are completely mixed pour the mixture into the buttered casserole dish. Take your spatula to flatten down the mixture to your best abilities, so you have enough room for the other colors. For the bowl i did the same thing I did the same thing i did with the pot. I put hot water in it to clean it. it good precaution an it keeps from time wasting.
Wash Your Materials
If you added water to the pot and bowl pour that out. I needed to wash it out a little with a sponge, but otherwise make sure the pot and bowl are clean.
Repeat Steps 3-9
This step is pretty self-explanatory. You just have to repeat steps 3-9 for the next 3 layers.
Letting It Cool
Just set them out somewhere where nothing will go wrong and wait a few hours. After you've waited cut them into small squares or any preferred shape. Enjoy ;)
