Buckwheat Tea Recipe: How To Make Soba Tea in Glass Teapot

In this instructable we're going to show you how to easily make a buckwheat tea at home. Buckwheat tea is full of nutritions and by watching this video you'll know how to make one yourself. Afterwards, read further to learn about the details related to the steeping time, steeping duration and the amount of buckwheat you'll need to apply.

What You'll Need for This Buckwheat Tea Recipe

Here's what you'll need:

  • 10 grams of buckwheat tea.
  • A glass teapot that can fit 500 ml of hot water
  • Hot water at 100 degrees Celsius (212 F)

Once you've get this ready, go to the next step!

Add Buckwheat Into the Teapot

Add 10 grams of buckwheat into an empty and clean glass teapot. This amount should be equal to about 1 tablespoon of buckwheat. Do note that if your teapot is larger or smaller than 500 ml, you can freely adjust the amount proportionally to the size of the teapot you own.

If you plan to brew an amount based on the amount of persons that you plan to serve you could assume 5 grams of buckwheat per person. So let say you want to make soba tea for 4, then you'll need about 20 grams of buckwheat.

Add Hot Water to Steep Buckwheat Tea

Add 500 ml of hot water into the Teasenz glass teapot and cover the teapot with the lid. Preferably get a teapot with infuser so that it's easier to remove the buckwheat once you're done.

Wait for the Steeping Time to Pass

Let the buckwheat steep inside the teapot for 3 minutes to get the perfect infusion. Feel free to adjust the duration based on own preference. Buckwheat is good for about 3 steeps, but if you reduce the steeping time you might get a few more brews. At the same time, increasing the steeping time and thereby the intensity of the flavor will reduce the amount of steeps.

Serve & Steep Again

Once the steeping time has passed you can now pour the buckwheat tea into cups and enjoy! Delicious right? The good news is that you can steep the soba tea for another two sessions. Apply the following steeping time while keeping the water temperature consistent:

  • 2nd brew: 5 minutes
  • 3rd brew: 8 minutes

You can drink as much as soba tea as you want without any worries about your weight. A cup of buckwheat itself contains lots of calories. However, when infused as tea, one cup contains only about 2 calories! In addition, there's some academic evidence that soba tea can help against diabetes by maintaining a healthy level of blood sugar.
