How to Make Bilbo's Sting Sword

So in this instructable, I'll show you how to make a hobbit size sword. Bilbos sword sting is probably the easiest sword out of the hobbit to make out of cardboard. Enjoy!

So to cut it I used the "blade/grip pattern" from the instructable "Sting - Lord of the Rings". I attached all the blade pieces together along with the handle pattern and I taped the guard right over that. Tape the pattern on cardboard and cut it out. I also shrunk the pattern down to 60% to get a smaller sword but size is up to you. Next, I glued on a spine along the handle to the middle of the guard. Make it just a strip of cardboard. I glued little half ovals onto the spine. Just 2 on each side. Next, I glued a long, straight line of hot glue along the middle of the blade. Repeat on the other side. Then, I cut out 2 guards and glued them onto the top half oval of the spine. Bend all the ends of the guards and pinch them all together on the ends and glue in place. Fill in all the edges of the cardboard of the guard with hot glue.

First, mask off the hilt, the guard, and the blade completely. You don't want any of the cardboard to get all wet and soggy. Then, mix up some flour, water and some white glue if you want it to be really strong. Stir. There really isn't any specific measurements for paper mache so you really just eyeball it. Now tear strips of newspaper or paper towel and dip into the paper mache mixture. run the strips through your fingers till all the wet stuff is off and it's just a little soggy. Lay lengthwise to the blade. Repeat till all of the blade hilt and guard is covered. Let dry. Do another coat (optional). Let dry in front of a fan overnight.

So you're probably wondering where the heck is the pommel. Don't worry though. To make the pommel, cut out a square-ish oval and give it a little curve. Glue it to the bottom of the hilt (handle). Now cut 2 little triangles and glue them on the oval shape and the sides of the handle. Fill in the front and back entirely with hot glue or clay.

Spray paint everything silver. Now paint the handle a red maroon color. Dry brush brown over red to look like a wood grain. Now I found some little pattern thingys on another instructable.I put it in the attached file below. It's a print out of the swirly thing that runs along the blade on Sting. So I shrunk them down to 60% again and glue sticked them on for a cleaner look. I now painted the leaf pattern onto the handle with silver model paint I had laying around the house.
