How to Make Banana Bread
"There are a lot of bad things in this world like skunks, itching your eye but it's still itchy, the Cubs, and getting paid not a lot of money for working. However, if you wait good things will happen to you...like banana bread at work, dude." Banana bread is a great morning treat for yourself, your family, or your coworkers. Before you begin your banana bread, be sure you have all the ingredients and materials needed to make it.
Ingredients needed include:
- ½ cup butter (one stick)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 2 ripe bananas (slightly brown)
Materials: large bowl, PAM spray, 9x5 loaf pan, toothpick, measuring cups (not pictured: microwavable bowl, spatula)
Prep
FIRST: Please wash your hands!
Heavily grease the bottom and sides of the loaf pan with Pam cooking spray.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Melt Butter
Put the ½ cup (stick) of butter in the microwavable bowl and microwave for about 20 seconds or until mostly melted. Pour the melted butter into the larger bowl.
A Little More Than a Spoonful of Sugar
Measure 1 cup of sugar and pour into large bowl. Stir sugar and butter together until smooth using spatula.
Add Eggs & Vanilla
Crack and add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the large bowl, mix well.
Add Flour
Add 1 ½ cup flour, mix until blended.
Add Baking Soda & Salt
Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and ½ teaspoon of salt, stir.
Mix in Sour Cream & Bananas
Fold in ½ cup of sour cream. Folding means to scoop and flip over to gently combine two mixtures. For best results, peel and mash bananas in the microwavable bowl by spoon or hand before adding them to the mixture. Mash to desired thickness.
Transfer Mixture
Pour mixture into loaf pan. Gently move the pan on the counter horizontally and vertically to evenly spread.
CHOCOLATE!!!!
Now you’re ready for the best part! You can get creative and add a ½ cup of chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, Reese's pieces, nuts, or any other ideas you may have. Lightly spread them on top as they will sink towards the middle while cooking.
Let's Get Baking!
Finally! Your banana bread is ready for the oven. Place it on the center rack and set the timer for 60 minutes.
Is It Done Yet?
When the timer goes off, a great way to check and see if it is fully cooked is to place a toothpick in the center of the loaf and pull it straight up. If there is any batter on it, put it back in the oven for an extra 5 minutes, repeat the process as necessary. If it comes out clean, it’s ready to cool off.
