How to Make Any Lipstick Matte

Anyone who wears lipstick knows the fear of ruining a nice lip the second they eat anything.

I've found a trick that gives a nice, transfer proof finish that isn't too drying on my lips.

What Lipsticks to Use

I have found this trick works best with stick lipsticks and satin finish liquid lipsticks, however, the same principle should apply to other oil based lipsticks.

I personally use this trick with my Colourpop liquid lipsticks.

If you hate the transfer of satin lipsticks, but think matte lipsticks are too drying, this is for you.

Materials

1.) Pressed or loose powder
2.) Lipstick
3.) Tissue or Toilet Paper

Simply apply your lipstick like normal.

For this tutorial, I will be using my Colourpop ultra satin liquid lipstick in Ambush.

Putting on Powder

Grab your loose or pressed powder.

Take a piece of tissue or toilet paper, and dip or rub it into the powder.

Please DO NOT apply powder to your lips with a brush. The bristles deserve to live

It does not matter if the powder is colored or translucent, either way the color will dull a bit.

For this tutorial, I will be using my Aavon pressed powder in G101 - light medium.

Putting on the Powder

Take the tissue and pat the places with powder all over your lips.

Once you have done so, make sure you get the very edges as well. Putting powder on your finger works for more accurate application.

Next, pucker your lips. Press the powder to the insides of your lips, so that the lipstick on the inside of your mouth doesn't come off.

This is optional, but if you have more cracked lips, smile wide so that your lips stretch, and you can see the cracks between the lipstick. Reapply powder on the cracks too.

Taking Off the Powder

With a different tissue or piece of toilet paper, gently wipe the powder off, and pat around your lips.

Use your fingers to pat and wipe off any excess.

Feel free to apply as much powder to get the desired effect, I find once is enough.

You're done! Enjoy!
