How to Make Adorable Mini Clay Pies
Polymer clay is one of my favorite art mediums to use. It can be made into endless thing, but this project is great for both beginners and experienced sculptors. Following these steps you can make your own little clay pies!
Supplies
Colored polymer clay
Elmers glue
Silver bottle caps
Acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Pie Crust
Cherry Pie
Cherry pie is the fifth most popular pie and while this version might not taste good it sure looks adorable.
1. Taking a silver bottle cap bush a small amount of pie crust clay to cover the sides and bottom on the inside.
2. Then make small red balls from clay and put them into the pie crust till they form a small domed shape
3. Roll out a very thin ( no thicker that a toothpick) sheet of crust clay and cut into strips 2 toothpicks wide
4 create lattice pattern by alternating strips going under and over making sure to leave squares of space between each strip
5. Place the latticed clay on top of the pie and remove the excess from sides by pushing the ends of each strip into the rim of the bottle cap
Pumpkin Pie
1. To create the color of the pumpkin pie filling mix together brown and orange in about a one to one ratio make sure you have enough to fill almost the full bottle cap
2. Put the clay filling into the bottle cap and smooth the top till it’s even
3. To make the crust rim around the pie roll out two thin ( toothpick thick) logs and twist them together to make a swirled log
4. Place the crust around the edge of the pie so it’s even with the edge of the bottle cap
Apple Pie
1. First take any color of scrap clay and put it into the bottle cap the crafts the shape of a pie minus one slice.
2. The cover the top of the scrap clay in a thin layer of crust color
3. For the real filling roll out small ovals of white clay set them to side and mix elmers glue with a little yellow paint
4. Roll the white clay balls in the elmers glue mixture till they form a sort of filling
5. Place the filling to cover the rest of the exposed clay and a little on the pie tin in front
6. Lastly using a toothpick or needle tool make small slits in the top of the pie
Bake the Clay
OPTIONAL Dry Brushing
Dry brushing the pies makes the crust seem more baked and gives the pies a little more realistic look. Take a small amount of brown paint and use a paint brush dip the very end it paint. Dab the brush onto paper until very little paint comes off. Use the paintbrush on the edges of each pie on the edge of the pie tin. This effect is most noticeable or helpful on the apple pie
Finished
The pies are done. You can make them into magnets, pins, charms, or keep them as little decorations. I hope you enjoyed making these pies and have a happy pi day.
