This a tutorial on how to trace line art on the app Vectornator.

Supplies

You will learn to trace the art work on the app Vectornator.

Choose the Line Art You Will Be Tracing.

I have chosen to use a simple music note to trace. If this is one of the first times you are tracing using Vectornator, I suggest using a simple design, such as the one above.

Getting Ready to Trace

The tool we will be using is the pen, which is pointed to by the blue arrow. Next, Check if you have the right line format next. Tap the paintbrush, represented by the purple arrow, to see the details of the line you will be drawing. Make sure that the fill is off. You can find the fill looking at the dark green arrow, turn it off taping the eye. To check if it’s off make sure there is a line over the eye, seen through the the light green arrow. The red arrow, stroke, will choose the color, and the orange one will change the size off the line, by sliding the bar.

Choose Your Starting Point

tap where the line starts to choose the beginning of the line. If there is no starting point on your line art, choose somewhere where you think would be easy to start.

Drawing Straight Lines

While drawing a sraight line, tap where the line stops going straight and starts curving. Don’t stretch the thin black line to much, or your line may curve. This line should go where to line you are tracing goes.

Drawing Curved Lines

When drawing a curved line, you should choose the end of the curve, or half way through. I suggest doing half way for more exact lines, and if the next portion of the line isn’t straight. The thin black line should go where the line you are tracing is going. The app will automatically assume where your line is going.

Drawing Loops

When tracing loops, doing more separate parts will make the loop better. DO NOT try to draw a big curve or loop in one line and have the direction, thin black line, not going where it needs to, it will mess up the next line you try to draw.

continue trying to finish your design on your own. If something goes wrong, check the previous steps to see if you let a mistake slip your mind.

When you are finished you can delete the background image. Your first attempt may not be perfect, but the more you practice, the better the designs should get
