The types of wool roving that felt up best for arm knitting yarn are: Corriedale, Shetland and Merino each one is soft as clouds and heavenly warm.
Fix the Rough Bits
Go through the entire length of roving (usually 150 meters, or 3 kg (6.6 lbs) is enough for a decent sized throw) and find all the rough bits. Smooth your hand over the rough bits to stick them back onto the bulk of the roving.
Wind a Ball and Knit It
GENTLY wind your wool roving into a center pull ball, then knit it all up with your arms. Doing this creates friction on the wool and will begin to lightly felt it.
Unravel and Repeat
GENTLY unravel everything you've just knitted, and repeat steps 3 and 4 several times until your wool roving gets stiff and will not break when given a firm tug.
Yarn Complete!
