Have you ever wanted to knit? Well, that's a good idea. Knitting helps relax you. so sit down and get ready to learn how to cast on, knit, and cast off.

Supplies

you will need

  • yarn (you can get it at any local craft store)
  • 10 mm needles (you can also get them at any local craft store)

Cast On

how to cast on.

first, make a loop with your yarn. this will make your first stitch. then put it on one of your needles. then tighten.

Cast On

now you will take your hand and lay it down flat. grab the long end of the yarn with your hand and then close it. make a loop around your thumb. now insert your needle through the loop and pull the yarn tight. you now have your first stitch. do this as many times as you want. for a beginner I suggest 10-12 maximum 5 stitches minimum.

Knitting

this is the fun step. this is where you're going to start knitting. so first take the top of the needle and use the first stitch on the pointy part of the needle. take your other needle and insert it, leave it behind the needle with the stitches and make an X. take the long end of the yarn and wrap it around the stitch in the middle of the X. hold the yarn down and pull the stitch over the first needle and on to the new one. repeat this for all the stitches and then just do this until your knitting gets to the length you want it at.

this is what your knitting should look like when you're knitting. I am stopping it at this point so that I could show you how to cast it off.

Cast Off

when casting off you have to make sure you always have two stitches when you're looping off, and make sure none of your stitches accidentally fall off. casting off is my favorite part of knitting. you start off by knitting two stitches. then take the bottom one. the one closest to the square or circle at the bottom of your needle. insert the other needle into the farther one and pull it over the second stitch. do this for all of the stitches.

Cast Off

when you are at the end of your cast-off and you have one loop left. take it off the needle. keep it loose, and then put an end of the yarn through it. cut off the excess and then tighten it.
