- A car with a working battery
- A pair of working Jumper cables
- A towel
- A flashlight
Warning

- Warning: Jumpstarting a car can be very dangerous and cause serious injury if done wrong. Please follow these steps for your safety!
Car Batteries

- Every car has a battery, whether or not it’s working, the battery has two charges on it: a positive charge and a negative. The positive charge is the red rod and the negative charge is the black or in some cases blue. When your car battery dies this is when you will need to either jumpstart your car or replace the battery.
Materials
- The materials you will need for this step-by-step are as follows:
-Jumper cables
-A working car
-A towel
-A flashlight
Danger

- Danger: Electrical shock risk
Do not let clamps come in contact with any of the other metal on your or your car. Make sure clamps are only indicated onto the rods of your battery.
Parking the Car

- Park the working car and non working car relatively close to one another so that there is no tension between the cables.
Unplug Everything in the Car

- Make sure that everything is unplugged in your car such as power outlets, phone chargers, and mp3 players.
Release the Hoods

- Release both hoods of each car. Prop up the hood of each car with the rod.
Finding the Car Battery

- Locate your car battery. Some may have a cover that you will need to remove. Make sure that you wipe each battery charge with a towel if corroded. Warning if your car battery is cracked to not jumpstart your car. You will need the car towed if the battery is cracked.
Warning

- Warning reminder, Do not let the clamps touch any metal unless it’s the battery rods.
Attaching Red Clamps

- Attach the red clamp to the positive charge on the working car, then attach the remaining red clamp to the dead car's positive clamp.
Attaching Black Clamps

- Now attach black clamp to the working car's negative battery rod. Then attach the remaining black clamp to the non working car’s negative battery rod.
Turn on Your Vehicles

- Turn on the working car, then turn on the non-working car.
Let the Cars Run

- Make sure to leave the cars on for 2-5 minutes while hooked up to both clamps.
Turn Off the Vehicles

- After your car has been running for a few minutes, turn off both cars then remove the clamps. ( the order when removing clamps does not matter.)
Shutting the Hoods
- Proceed to shut both hoods of the car once the jumper cables are removed.
Summary
- This concludes the step-by-step instructions on how to jumpstart your car. Please remember to get your car battery replaced or checked by a mechanic within the next 24 hours after jumpstarting your car. If it so happens that your car still isn’t starting after using the jumper cables, your car battery is not the problem and your car needs to be looked at.
