How to Hand Crank a Tractor

Class project

Hi, my name is Caleb Illg. I bought this tractor back in June and have sense then put a lot of work into it. Have you ever wanted to buy a hand crank tractor but your parents or friends have told you about how dangerous they can be? Well today I am going to show you how to safely and properly start a hand crank tractor in 5 easy steps.

Step 1: Connect Battery Or Turn On Magneto

First, if your tractor has a magneto you will not have a battery because the electricity created in the magneto will supply power to the points on your tractor. However, if you have converted your tractor over to a distributor/generator, like me, you will need a battery.

Step 2: Transmission In Neutral
Secondly, make sure to put your tractor in neutral so when the tractor starts it can not run you over.

Step 3: Keep Clutch Held In

Thirdly. Since you have to be in front of your tractor to start it you want to be as safe as possible. By making some sort of arm to hold the clutch in will ultimately save you or your tractor in case you forget step 2.

Step 4: Turn The Key On

Fourthly, turning the key on will provide a electric current to your distributor for when you start creating spark/compression. Note, you can skip this step if you have a magneto.

Step 5: Safely Crank The Tractor

Lastly, this is the most dangerous step so it is important you follow the directions. Always crank the tractor in upward motion with your hands making palms and never fully going around the bar.
