OK for a substrate you can use multi-purpose compost as it is good for normally many plants. You can't use it alone you need to add a good manure to it so that the leaves grow heather plus herbs love a good manure.

To prepare the pot you should also have some rocks.layer them as rocks at the bottom compost and manure at the top.Rocks act as a drainage to the water so your plants do not have to surfer.

Preparing the Onions for Growth

Now that the pot is done let's move on to the onions. Cut a small part off the top of the onions so that it will be easy for the onions to grow. soak them in water for about 4 hours. This will help the roots start easily.

Now that that's done we can start the actual planting.

Start by taking one onion by one and place them in the soil so that the side with roots go down and side which we cut goes up. This is basically it.

  • Water them daily with rain water or normal tap water.
  • Keep the soil moist.
  • Keep the onion container in a nice sunny spot which receives sunlight at least 6 hours a day.
