  • Water
  • Distilled, white vinegar
  • Applicator bottle, spray bottle, OR just a big ol' jar (depending on the thickness of your dreads.

Ready to get started? First, mix 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water. You will then need to decide how you'll want to apply the vinegar mixture. If you have thin dreadlocks a spray bottle is going to be your best bet. If you have thicker dreads, an applicator bottle might be your go-to. If you've got SUPER thick dreads, having a jar or large container you can sit your dreads in might be your answer.

Saturate

Saturate. Saturate. SATURATE.

Make sure that vinegar solution gets all the way to the CORE of your dread, that's where the smell is coming from! The next step is to WAIT (for approximately 10 minutes).

Rinse and Repeat

Rinse your dreadlocks thoroughly! If you still feel like you're smelling vinegar, you may have to rinse multiple times. If you still have that mildew smell, time for another batch of vinegar solution! Rinse and repeat until the smell is gone. THEN DRY THOROUGHLY. What likely got you smelly dreads in the first place was damp dreads that didn't dry all the way, make sure to get those bad boys BONE DRY before you do anything else, then enjoy ick-free dreads!
