Are you looking for an inexpensive and subtle way to freshen up your living space? Do you like supporting independent artists? If so, then using stickers and other similar types of media could be the answer! Artists all over the world use merchandising websites to sell their art, and it can be hard finding exactly what you’re looking for. In this exercise, we’ll make you familiar with how to know what sticker you want, and how these websites function. Let’s begin!

Find a Surface to Sticker

Stickers are meant to be stuck! Find something you want to put a sticker on. Ideas could be a water bottle, a phone case, a laptop, a car bumper, or any place or thing that looks like it could use a little more color.

What Do You Want on Your Sticker?

Think about what kind of sticker you want. Do you want something that shows your love for a movie or video game, or would you prefer something more subtle and colorful? Try not to think too hard about it, there's a sticker for almost anything you can think of.

Write Down Your Idea

Write down two or three words that best describes what you would want. It could be a character, a shape, a color, or your favorite game or show. You can also do things from nature, holidays, or animals.

Filter It Out

There will most likely be hundreds or thousands of results from your search, so to help narrow down your choices you can apply search filters usually found near the search bar. They can filter out things like size, price, and color.

Pick One Out

Usually, stickers are pretty cheap. Some independent artists will also have larger sticker sheets or deals on buying multiple stickers. Find the artist’s name on this page and click on it to navigate to their storefront.

Artist Check Part 2

See if there are other designs from this same artist you would prefer, or if you want to buy multiple items. But, before you start filling your cart with items, there's one more important step you should take.

IMPORTANT!

artist signature.JPG

When buying anything from art websites like these, you’ll want to make sure that the listing you are buying from is actually the artist that made the product, as people will frequently steal designs that they didn’t make. Scrutinize the design and see if the image quality is crisp, or see if you can find a signature in the art that matches the artist. See if the artist links to their personal website or twitter account. Compare the designs in their store and see if they are consistent. You can also check the ratings and reviews for the items themselves.
