How to Evenly Apply Foundation

Applying foundation(COMM)

Foundation is the easy part about makeup, isn't it? It can't be hard, just put it on and its good? If only it were that simple. Foundation will make or break an entire makeup look. My name is Halie Williams and I have been doing makeup for a little over four years. In order for me to advance to my skill level of makeup, I have watched numerous makeup tutorials and exceeded hours of practice. In order to help exceed in practicing makeup, I will be explaining how to apply foundation for a natural look.

Cleanse the Face

First, start with a clean, moisturized face. This simple step makes it easy to evenly apply foundation. Use a cleanser to wash the face, then rinse with warm water. Once the face is properly cleaned, pat the face dry with a clean towel. Cleansing the face exfoliates and removes excess dirt and oils.

Moisturize and Prime Face

Next, apply a dime size drop of moisturizer in the palm of the hand and use fingertips to apply it to the face. Let the moisturizer settle on the skin avoid streaks later on. Moisturizer helps prevent skin blemishes and dry patches

Now that the moisturizer is applied, place a pea size amount of primer on the hand and evenly distribute it among the face. Using primer results in a smooth, natural look after the foundation is applied.

Tools for Foundation Application

Once the skin is prepared, grab the cream foundation, a damp sponge, and a brush. Personally, I enjoy any foundation with a damp sponge. Known from experience, oily skin works best with cream foundation and dry skin works with liquid foundation. Before applying foundation, dip the sponge in the glass of water and squeeze out the excess water back into the cup, making the sponge damp

Cream Foundation and Liquid Foundation

When using cream foundation, squeeze a pea size amount on the back of the hand and use the brush to apply the foundation from the hand to the face. Remember, more foundation can be used if needed, so always start out using less. Apply foundation to entire face, below the chin, and down the neck. After applying with the brush, use the sponge to help the foundation blend into the skin.

Liquid foundation can also be put on the back of the hand and applied with a damp sponge. Start out by applying small dots all over the face, below the chin and neck. Dabbing works best with a sponge. NEVER RUB!! It can cause the sponge to break and can soak up all the product. Dab in all areas.

Start with one side of the face and move onto the other side. For example, I start on my right cheek then go down my chin line, below the chin, and onto the neck, following that I go onto the right side of my forehead down onto my eyes and surrounding areas and also my nose. Then repeat to the other side.

Final Look

After applying the foundation to the desired look make sure to go over all areas at least another time or even two more times. It'll help the foundation blend more and look natural.

With an even face of foundation, it will help the rest of the makeup look glow and transition evenly with the rest of the face!!!
