How to Dutch Braid Your Own Hair
In this Instructable, you will learn how to dutch braid your own hair. The following technique is simple and easy-to-follow, but takes practice.
Supplies
- Hair brush
- Elastic tie(s)
Brush Your Hair
It is important to brush any knots or tangles out of your hair before you start braiding so they don't create issues mid-braid.
Prepare Your Tools
Keep the brush on hand in case you missed any knots and need to get them out while you're braiding. You should also have your elastics on hand for when the braid is finished, especially if you're doing two braids.
Starting the Braid
-
Gathera section of hair on the top of your head.
Continuing the Braid
Split the section of hair into 3 pieces.
Moving the Strands
Now, move the left strand underneath the middle stand and over the very right strand. Now, the original left strand should be on the very right, the original middle should be on the left, and the original right should be in the middle.
Adding to the Strands
Now, you can add hair to the strands so the braid gets the "dutch" style. Do this simply by picking up another small section of hair and adding it to the right. Do the same on the left. Try not to lose track of that middle strand in the process.
Repeat the Motion
With the now thickened strands, repeat the motion in step 5 of left strand under-over.
Keep Braiding Until Complete
This is the entire technique to the braid! You now add strands again and repeat the motion. Keep doing this till you run out of hair, and you can either make a bun at the bottom or keep braiding into a simple 3-strand braid. You're finished after this!
