How to Drive a 1911 Model T
I have been able to drive all sorts of vehicles since a young age and through my many years of driving, I have learned how to drive all sorts of vehicles from new to old. I’m going to teach you how to drive an older vehicle that very few people know how to drive anymore so that you can say that you are part of the few that can drive it. I’m going to teach you how to drive a 1911 model T. Being able to know how to drive an older car like that could come in handy if you ever get the chance to drive one or even own one.
Supplies
Before we get started you will need a running Motel T that has fuel in it. It would be a good idea to check for oil in the car because replacement parts are expensive. Then to make the process a little easier get a fully charged 6-volt battery. Next, you will need wide open space to practice driving the car before going and driving down the road. Another good thing to have but is not a requirement is a driver’s license and tabs for the vehicle.
First, you will need to make sure that the car is ready to run. The oil must be checked to make sure that it is not low to wear it will hurt the car, if it is low add some more in until it is at the full mark. The next thing that will need to be done is make sure there is enough gas in the tank, so you don’t get stranded. The final step to checking over the car is to make sure there is enough air in the tires, so they are not flat.
Starting the car first make sure that the car is in park, before cranking over the car. Next put the spark lever to just a little above have. The spark lever is located on the left side of the steering wheel. Thirdly the throttle lever located on the right side of the steering wheel should be set to the half position but can be increased if not wanting to start. The next thing that can be helpful full but not necessary is to switch the switch over to battery power this will help it turn over and start better than it would when it is set to the coil, but you must put it back on coil after it starts. After the car is set up to start going to the front of the car to where the crank is, but when it is cranked make sure you don’t wrap your thumb around the handle cause if it backfires it will catch your thumb and snap your wrist and arm. While cranking the car over there should be a cable that when pulled will chock the car so it will start easier, but don’t hold it every time while cranking it or it will get flooded and not start at all.
Driving the car, the first thing that needs to be known is that there is no gas pedal in this car. When sitting in the car there are three pedals on the floor the one on the left is the forward pedal, the middle one is reversed, and the right one is the brake. The second thing that must be done is to push the lever forward but not all the way it should be like a little click then the car should be in low, so in low gear, the car won’t take off until the forward or reverse pedal is pressed. To have the car go faster when driving down the road you leave the forward pedal pushed down then push the shifting lever on the left side by the leg all the way forward then lite off the pedal and give it a little more throttle, then the forward pedal kind of acts like a clutch. To slow the car back down press the forward pedal all the way in and pull the lever back to the low position, and to stop the car don’t touch the left or middle pedal just idle the car down with the throttle on the right side of the steering wheel and press the pedal on the right the brake, but be careful push the brake slowly or the tires will lock up which will hurt cost it may be an old car but it can stop pretty fast. Finally, to back up in the car it is just like the procedure to start off to go forward just press the middle revers pedal.
