How to Do Your Nails With a Gel Nail Kit
This is for anyone who has an interest in painting nails. These instructions can be fairly general because everyone can follow this and be able to paint their nails with a gel kit in the end.
Gather Materials
- Find a nice setup or station of your choosing
- Gather nail materials, that includes your nail file, clippers, buffer, cuticle remover, cuticle pusher, and paper towels
- Make sure you pick out your gel nail polish color(s) and design of your choosing.
- Grab nail primer, a base coat, and top coat, cuticle oil, and nail polish remover
- Get out led light and plug it into the nearest outlet
Prep Nails
- Wash hands with soap to get rid of nasty germs and oils. Scrub under nails to get any possible dirt out. Dry hands completely by using a towel
- Take a cuticle remover and put on every nail bed, wait a couple seconds and then take the cuticle pusher to remove any excess cuticle from the nail. Wipe off any remaining remover
- Buff each nail with a buffer to even out the nail and scrape off any remaining top layers. Also buff each end of the nail to strengthen them and even them out
- Clip nails to the length of your liking
- Take any kind of new nail file and use it on every nail. Only use it in a one direction motion, this keeps the nail from getting bent or flimsy. Keep the file straight when using at all times, this makes sure the shape of your choice is to your liking
Shape Fake Nails
- If you would like to use fake nails, following these next directions, if you prefer not to, skip to Step 4
- Buy any fake nails of your choosing and make sure different sizes are included. Preferably clear so its easier to paint over
- Size each nail to your actual nail and make sure both sides of the fake nail reach across your nail bed. This makes sure the fake nail will fit correctly and last longer
- Once you have found your size for each nail, lay them out in order
- Next take a nail drill and pick the smallest size tip and place it into the drill. Turn your drill on high and buff the underneath of each fake nail until they all look cloudy. Buffing the underneath of the nails help create a rough edge ensuring they last longer when the glue cures under the led light
Start Painting
- Take a clean paper towel and lay it on the surface you are sitting at. This makes sure any mess stays on the paper towel for an easy clean up
- Making sure all nails are prepped, add a thin layer of nail primer to each nail. Wait for it to fully dry
- Once the primer is fully dried, take the gel base coat and apply it on each nail of your left hand. Turn on the led lamp and place your hand under the lamp, pushing the 60 second button. Once the light turns off after 60 seconds, take your hand out and place it back on the paper towel.
- Take the gel colored polish of your choosing and paint each nail on your hand. If any gel polish gets on the skin around your nails, you can take a thin nail brush and soak it into nail polish remover(acetone) and take it along the skin to remove any excess. When the nail polish is to your liking, place your hand back into the lamp and press the 60 second button again. When the light turns off, take your hand out and place on the paper towel
Cure on Top Coat
- Once you have done 2 coats of your gel colored polish and cured it on each hand, grab the gel top coat and place a thin layer on each nail. Cure under the led lamp for 60 seconds. Once the light goes off, take your hand out
- Repeat for your other hand
- Once each nail is fully cured, take cuticle oil and place it onto each nail bed and rub it in. This gives the nails a nice shiny look to them and makes sure the nails stay strong.
Clean Up
- Once you have finished painting and curing your nails, now it's time to clean up.
- Start by throwing away the paper towel you used for your surface, it could have wet paint on it still or any nail clippings
- Then make sure all the caps on the polish bottles are secure and tight, preventing leakage. Put them away in a dark place, or back where you found them
- Make sure to clean all the materials you used for prep very well and carefully. This prevents cross contamination when using them for the next time. Dry them thoroughly and place them back in a safe place.
- Unplug the led lamp light and allow it to cool down before placing it away. Once it has cooled, take the cord and lamp and place it back in a safe space
- Once your area is all cleared of nail stuff, take cleaning spray of any kind and clean the surface with the spray and a paper towel. Allow to dry fully.
