How to Dismantle a Shotgun in Five Steps
Hi. I’m Lane Everson. I have been working with shotguns for many years. Hunting and making sure your gun is in the right condition is ideal. I’m going to show you the steps of how to take your shotgun apart and how to put it back together. Did you know that if a shotgun is not put together the right way it could blow up?

How to Dismantle a Gun
Find your shotgun and maybe a glove. Once the gun is found get ready to take it apart. The glove might be needed to help take the gun apart because the gun may be dirty. If the gun is dirty consider cleaning it.
Take Off Cap
Once the gun is found unscrew the cap underneath your barrel. When the cap is taken off make sure the spring and the plug do not fly out. If they fly out, find everything that may have been launched out of the gun and put it back in its place. Make sure the pieces are put somewhere where they will not go missing.
Barrel and Foregrip
After the cap is off, pull the foregrip off and the barrel off then set them aside with the other pieces. Be careful that the barrel does not hit the little cap at the end of the shell tube.
Pieces After the Barrel
Following taking the barrel off, take the pieces off that are under the foregrip. There should be three different pieces under the foregrip. Remember how the gun was taken apart so it can properly be put back together. Once again keep a close eye on all of the pieces.
Firing Mechanism
Take out the two pins that hold the firing mechanism and the action in and it is completely dismantled. Make sure the pins are in a spot where you will not lose them. Repeat the steps in reverse order to put the gun back together.
