How to Crochet a Pull-ring Flower for Beginners!

Have you got a collection of pull-rings lying around the house just waiting to be used? Well, this is the project for you!

There are many online tutorials about how to make these pull-ring flowers, but I found that they were all for experienced crocheters, and there were none for beginners, so I have created one! This is a quick, easy 3 step pattern that will look great as a brooch, christmas ornament, or even a necklace! You can also join these flowers together and make a garland. Have fun!

Supplies

Crochet Hook: I am using a size 5.0mm, but a 4.5mm will also work.

Yarn: Any medium thickness yarn is good for this project. You don't want it too thin because there will be large gaps in your work, and if it's too thick it is hard to work with.

6 Pull-Rings: Make sure they are clean and do not have any sharp edges on them.

Single Crochet

Start with a slipknot on your hook. To do a single crochet stitch, take a pull-ring, and insert your hook into the middle of it. Then wrap the yarn around the hook once, and pull it through the pull-ring only. There should be two loops on your hook. Wrap the yarn over the hook again and pull it through both loops this time. And that's it! Your first single crochet done! Do 4 more of these into the same pull-ring, then 5 into the other 5 pull-rings. You should end up with a chain of pull-rings like shown.

Spiral in the Middle

To fill in the middle of the flower, first join the two ends of your pull-ring chain by inserting the hook into the top of the first single crochet you made. Wrap the yarn around the hook once and pull it through the two loops. That's a slip-stitch! Next, make a spiral of single crochet going into the single crochet you joined the pull-rings with, but instead of going into every single crochet, skip two and go into every third to help it stay tight. Once you reach the centre, cut your yarn leaving about 10cm, and tuck it through the loop on your hook. Pull it tight, then cut it short.

Trebles for the Petals

To crochet a treble stitch: Start with a slipknot on your hook. Wrap the yarn around your hook, holding the slipknot. Insert the hook into the top part of one of your pull-rings. Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull it through the pull-ring only. Then wrap the yarn over the hook again, this time going through the closest two loops on the hook. When you wrap the yarn over the hook again, there should be three loops on the hook. Pull the yarn through the last loops. That's a treble stitch! Do 10 of these on each top half of the pull-ring. Slip-stitch into the first treble you made. When you're finished, cut the yarn leaving 10cm and pull it through the loop on the hook. Pull it tight and cut it short. You're finished!
