How to Crochet a Dish Towel

1 scene of cotton or cotton blend yarn (any color)

1 Crochet hook, 6mm

Patience and practice!

To get started, make a small slipknot at the end of your yarn, ensuring that the short end tightens the loop when pulled. Slide the needle into the loop and tighten.

Grab the needle with your right hand and the yarn with you left, ensuring the feeding line is sitting on top of your left index finger. take the needle and wrap the yarn around it once. Then, using the hook shape at the end of the needle, pull the wrapped yarn through the loop. Repeat this simple pull trough stitch to make your base chain. For this project, you will need 26 base stitches.

Once your chain is complete, wrap the yarn around the needle once again. Working right to left, skip the first hole in the chain and insert eh needle in the second. Wrap the yarn around again, and pull a loop back through the hole. The wrap around, pull through two loops, and wrap around again, pulling through the last two loops. Practice this stitch in each consecutive chain loop until you feel comfortable with this stitch. Once comfortable, create an entire row (25) of double stitches, working right to left.

Once finished with your first row (Great job!), flip the entire row around with the needle on the right hand side. Starting like you did with the double stitch, wrap the yarn around the needle, push the needle through the first hole on the previous row, wrap around, and pull through the hole. After wrapping around again, pull the yarn through all three loops, completing the half double stitch. Repeat the stitch in all 25 holes on the previous row.

After mastering both stitches, now you can make your dish towel. Starting with the two rows you have already created, continue to alternate stitch types with each row until you have a total of 20 rows.

Finally, cut the yarn form the rest of the ball. Wrap around the needle once and pull the tail all the way through. Slightly pull on the tail to tighten, then cut both tails off.
