If you're new to cooking non-canned beans, you might think you need a pressure cooker to do it properly. While some of the best results can be achieved with such equipment, you can still do a good job with a normal saucepan!

If you can't afford to upgrade your kitchen equipment, we're going to show you how to cook beans with a pressure cooker!

Soak the Beans

This step is especially important as it helps reduce cooking times. Make sure you soak the beans (and any other legumes) for up to half an hour.

Add the Beans to a Saucepan With More Water

There's no need to use the same water you used for soaking. A good guide for water amounts is 3 cups for every one cup of beans you're cooking.

If you can, try and use a saucepan with a heavy lid.

Bring to the Boil

You should know how to do this!

Once you've brought to the boil, put the lid on and let the beans simmer for a while.

Check Regularly and Cook to Taste.

Make sure you check the beans quite regularly and keep them simmering until you've got them just right. You should be able to squish a well cooked bean in your mouth easily. Some people like them cooked slightly more, but that's up to you!

Serve and Enjoy!
