How to Clean a Waterpik

After staring at my dirty Waterpik on my bathroom counter for awhile, I decided it needed to be cleaned inside and out.

Supplies

Water

White distilled vinegar

Hydrogen peroxide

Measuring cup

Tablespoon/kitchen spoon

Cup

Clean the Exterior Unit

Clean the outside of the unit first. I decided to use alcohol wipes, but you could also use just a simple, wet washcloth.

Wash the Water Reservoir.

Make sure to take the small plug out in order to wash away mineral deposits that are left behind. I washed this in the sink, but you can also use your dishwasher. Sit it in the top rack and make sure to air dry after the cleaning cycle has ran.

Pour Water Into Reservoir

Fill the water reservoir up with 16oz of water. Tank is labeled on the right side.

Add Vinegar

Add in 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to water mixture.

Run Mixture Through Unit to Clean

Use your cup that you had on hand to catch the water that is being ran through your unit. You can also do this over a sink. After you have ran the whole mixture through, run it another time through with just water in order to rinse out any vinegar that may be left.

Soak Handle (only Countertop Models)

Pour equal mixture water, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide into cup. push the eject button on the very top of the handle to take flosser off. Let it soak for about 5 minutes. Dry handle off thoroughly. Tip: You may have to shake handle to get all of the extra water out. This will not damage your handle. Handheld unit is not recommended for this step.

Clean Flosser

Soaker flosser in a water and hydrogen peroxide mixture. You could also use vinegar instead for all of these steps, but I chose to just use hydrogen peroxide for the flosser attachment.

Put Unit Back Together

Now that every piece has been thoroughly cleaned and dried, your Waterpik unit should look like new again! Enjoy!
