How to Clean a Handgun
In this episode of Concealed Carry Television (CCTV), you’ll get a quick and intuitive rundown on how to clean a handgun. Cleaning your gun regularly will help to prevent misfires in the future. With that said, having a clean gun could help to keep you safe in a self-defensive situation.
A clean gun is a happy gun, and a happy gun means a happy owner. On with the show! In case you’d prefer a written step-by-step, the rest of this description may be helpful to you.
To start, be sure that you keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. Assure that it is unloaded before proceeding to the cleaning. To clean a handgun, begin by releasing the magazine, remove the slide from the receiver, and perhaps take the barrel out (if you’d like a deeper clean). You’ll want to use your favorite liquid or canned solvent. Let’s break the rest down into rapid-fire bullet points.
- Swab the barrel out.
- Clean the Slide Rails with a Q-tip.
- Oil it down with a separate Q-tip.
- Assure that the slider is clean and free of debris. This may require a spray.
- Clean the magazine well from both sides.
Now you’re ready to reassemble the weapon. Start by reconnecting the slide release, then reengage the takedown tool. Assure that it functions by pulling it back several times.
